The Insurance Intelligence Committee this week honored Tim Dodge, AU, ARM, CPCU, assistant vice-president of research and information for Big I New York, at the annual Mid-America Insurance Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. In a separate action, the committee elected Dodge to a position on its board of directors.

The committee presented Dodge with one of two Agent Of Change Awards at a luncheon held on November 7, the first full day of the conference. The award was for an agenda item submitted at the 2017 conference to the Insurance Services Office (ISO) that asked ISO to create an optional endorsement for personal auto insurance policies. The premium-bearing endorsement would provide Comprehensive and/or Collision coverage for insureds who drive for transportation network companies (TNC) such as Uber and Lyft, while paying passengers are in the car.

ISO adopted the suggestion and has published endorsement number PP 43 32 01 23, Transportation Network Driver Physical Damage Deductible Coverage. If it is attached to a policy, the insurer will pay the difference between the deductible shown in the policy declarations for the car and the deductible charged by the insurance provided by the TNC.

The endorsement has a January 2023 edition date. It does not appear that ISO has filed this endorsement for use in New York yet.

Also on November 7, the committee by voice vote elected Dodge to a position on its board of directors. The committee organizes and runs the conference, which occurs in November during non-pandemic years.

Since 1934, the Mid-America Technical Conference, now recognized as the Mid-America Insurance Conference has been serving the American agency system as a forum for discussion on topics such as property-casualty coverage, rules, forms, and other technical aspects within the insurance industry. These discussions often lead to recommendations by agents for positive change. In essence, the Mid-America Insurance Conference serves as both a sounding board for agents bent on improving the technical side of the insurance industry and the catalyst for change. Conference participants include agents, agent association representatives, and representatives from ISO, ACORD, the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI,) and the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI.)
