If there was one message that hit home at this year’s BIG I NY Women’s Summit, it came from leadership coach Jenn Urso—and it might be the most important professional skill we all need in today’s industry.
You must know how to own your story. Loudly. Clearly. Confidently.
In a world overflowing with talent, technology, and competition, waiting to be noticed is no longer a strategy. As Jenn reminded us, clarity is confidence, and confidence is currency.
And this year, she didn’t just tell us why a personal pitch matters—
she taught a room full of women how to build one on the spot.
A Timely Reminder: If You Don’t Tell Your Story, Someone Else Will
There’s a reason the NY Women’s Summit exists: to create a space where women can build tools, community, and courage to lead this industry forward.
Jenn’s session was the perfect example.
She gave us a framework simple enough to use today, but powerful enough to shape careers:
- Who you are
- What you do
- Why it matters
- How you make an impact
Then she asked a room of nearly 200 women leaders:
"Who here feels completely confident delivering a 60-second introduction that opens doors?"
Almost no hands went up.
But by the end of the session?
Women were standing up, practicing out loud, refining their message, cheering each other on, and, yes, sounding like the leaders they already are.
The Big Lesson: Women in Insurance Need to Stop Minimizing Their Value
One of Jenn’s most powerful moments came when she called out something many of us do without thinking:
This industry needs women who advocate for themselves, who speak clearly about what they bring to the table, and who stop underselling the value they create.
We aren’t “just" anything.
We’re producers. Innovators. Strategists. Decision-makers.
And yes, badass leaders.
Jenn’s Challenge to All of Us
Leave the Summit
and use your voice.
Practice your pitch.
Talk about your expertise.
Ask for what you want.
End conversations with action.
And don’t apologize for a single thing you’ve earned.
Jenn put it best:
“Your story is a tool. Use it proudly."
This session wasn’t only about introductions.
It was about identity, power, and possibility.
THIS IS Why We Host This Summit
Because when women in this industry learn a skill together…
We don’t just take notes.
We level up. We lift each other. We show up differently in every room we walk into afterward.
Jenn reminded us that leadership is not a job title.
It’s the courage to speak your truth and the clarity to make sure people hear it.
And if this year’s Summit proved anything, it’s this:
Women in insurance aren’t waiting for a seat at the table anymore.
We’re walking in with our story, our pitch, and our power.
